The Social License to Operate (SLO) work is clustered into one work package within the MIREU project. The objective of the SLO work in MIREU is to develop EU level SLO Guidelines and an accompanying Toolkit that will further the social awareness of mining and metallurgy at the national, regional and local levels; develop pan-European social responsibility standards for the mining industry; redefine the role of regional regulatory authorities in furthering SLO; and provide concrete tools for all affected stakeholders to improve transparency and communication, with the ultimate aim of building trust.

MIREU is organising a series of three SLO workshops throughout the project. The first SLO workshop focused on different concepts related to sustainability practises. The second workshop looks at SLO through the lens of regional development to explore how building trust between communities and companies can potentially further mining activities and contribute to regional economic growth and social cohesion across Europe. The third SLO workshop takes a more forward view with a focus on ensuring SLO is adaptive and resilient.
