3rd OECD Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities

  • Tue, 22/06/2021

Following a very successful meeting in Darwin, Australia, the 3rd OECD Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities will be hosted by the city of Skellefteå, Sweden on 12th-13th June 2019.

The meeting in Skellefteå will have a special focus on the transition to the green economy, and innovative ways to attract, retain and develop a skilled workforce. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about leading practices related to mining and regional development in the Arctic.

The event is designed for representatives from different levels of government, the private sector and civil society. It will provide the opportunity for a global dialogue on experiences and leading practices on issues related to mining and regional development.

The MIREU project will co-organise a pre-conference workshop with the title Quality of Life in Mining Regions and Cities on 11th June together with the OECD.

The pre-conference workshop will bring together key regional and industry stakeholders from the EU, Latin America, Australia, and North America. The workshop will provide an opportunity for the participants to deep-dive into one of the key themes of the OECD project: quality of life and well-being. This includes topics such as skills, housing, public services, community infrastructure and environmental issues. The results of the pre-conference will provide evidence to support guidance for OECD member countries on regional development policies in a mining and extractives context.

The pre-conference participation is by invitation only. If you are interested in joining the pre-conference workshop, please contact Kaisa Turunen from MIREU (kaisa.turunen@gtk.fi) and Lisanne Raderschall from OECD (lisanne.raderschall@oecd.org).
